Get Involved
The most important commitment you can make to professionalisation is your own membership of the professional association. Other than this, as we are a new organisation, there are many opportunities to be involved in the formative stages. We encourage you to contact us about ways to become involved.
Be a champion of professionalisation
In your workplace and in your networks, talk to others about professionalisation and how they can be involved.
Encourage your organisation to support
Talk to your organisation about making a public commitment that their youth work services will practice according the Western Australian Youth Work Code of Ethics. Some organisations have also begun to list eligibility for membership of the Western Australian Association of Youth Workers as a ‘desired’ criteria in their job advertisements.
Become a WAAYW agency representative
This means that you are somebody who people in your organisation can talk to about membership of the WAAYW.
Volunteer some time
The Western Australian Association of Youth Workers is still a volunteer run organisation and there are some tasks that are part of the day to day running. If you are willing to offer some time in administration, website updating, marketing or want to be involved in things like developing the Code of Ethics further please contact the association. People who would like to become part of the WAAYW management committee are also encouraged to let us know.
Give Feedback
The Association is only as strong as the feedback it gets from the field. We welcome robust comment, debate and criticism so that an organisation that properly reflects the needs of the field can be created.
